Gems and minerals

DELAWARE The 51st Annual Earth Science Gem and Mineral Show is March 1-2 at Delaware Technical & Community College in Newark. There will be exhibits of mineral, lapidary, and fossil specimens, and displays from Iron Hill Museum and University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum, and fossils from the Delaware Museum of Natural History.

Restaurant week

MAINE It's restaurant week in cities and towns across the state March 1-10. Special events include the Pancake Race (March 4) and the Signature Cocktail and Dessert Event (March 9).

African American art

MARYLAND See the Kinsey Collection, covering more than 400 years of African American art and artifacts, at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture through March 2.

Chilly chili cookoff

NEW HAMPSHIRE The annual Chilly Chili Cookoff and Stroll in North Conway Village is March 1. There will be tastings, festivities, and children's activities.

Classic cars

NEW JERSEY The Atlantic City Classic Car Show and Auction is Feb. 28-March 2 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. There will be more than 1,000 collectible cars available for sale.

Winter and Mardi Gras

NEW YORK Celebrate two events at Holiday Valley's Winter Carnival and Mardi Gras Parade March 8 and 9 in Ellicottville. There will also be games, contests, music, and food.

Horse World Expo

PENNSYLVANIA The 12th Annual Pennsylvania Horse World Expo is Feb. 27-March 2 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. It features clinicians teaching riders to train their own horses, competitions, and showcases for regional horses and riders.

St. Patrick's parade

RHODE ISLAND See the St. Patrick's Day Parade March 1 in Pawtucket. It starts at noon by McCoy Stadium; the grand finale is at City Hall on Roosevelt Avenue. There will be three Irish 5K footraces over eight days, including the "Tour de Patrick."

Quilts on display

VIRGINIA Visit the 25th Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, Feb. 27-March 2 in Hampton. See wearable and textile art at one of the largest quilt gatherings in the East. The theme of this year's festival, "What If?", gives entrants an opportunity to relate what their quilt would say if it could talk.
