How to take your makeup from day to night

Most of us don’t wear a smoky eye to the office. But with a few products in your makeup bag, you can easily amp up your look for a night out.

You've got a date after work -- how fun! Or maybe you're meeting the girls for drinks. Either way, you're looking to step up your regular makeup game with something special.

Most of us don't wear a smoky eye to the office. But with a few products in your makeup bag, you can easily amp up your look.

Here are ways to take your makeup from day to night.

Powder your nose. A translucent matte powder will get rid of shine and touch up any foundation that may have strayed throughout the day. I love the Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder, $3.99 at drugstores. Don't let the bright white color deter you; this product is good for all skin tones.

Add some color to your lips. Swap your everyday lip gloss for something bolder. I'm currently loving the Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo, $32 at Sephora, which offers color in a comfortable formula. The shades Leader, a fuchsia, and Lover, an orange-red, just scream girls night out.

Draw on some eyeliner, which will bring extra attention to your eyes. My all-time favorite eyeliner is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, $22 at Sephora. It's incredibly easy to apply, even if attempting winged eyeliner is something you'd never dream of, and the crisp line won't budge until you take it off at the end of the night.

More mascara, please. For really bold lashes, you can be high-maintenance like me and use two different formulas. I'm currently layering the Buxom Lash Mascara, $20 at Ulta, with the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara, $23 at Sephora.

Spritz on some face spray. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, $32 at Sephora, will refresh tired skin, restore moisture, and extend the life of your makeup. Who worked a nine-hour day before going out? You might have, but you certainly won't look like it.

If you don't wear perfume to the office (and your coworkers thank you, by the way), add quick a dab of fragrance. A rollerball is an easy and inexpensive way to keep a favorite scent in your makeup bag.
