Need a Little Nailspiration? 5 Edgy Nail Art Trends to Try Right Now

When you want to get a little edgy, look no further than your fingers. Even if you typically wear conservative makeup, you can really get creative with your hands. For a little “nailspiration,” I turned to New Jersey-based nail expert and social media star Phuong Luu, a.k.a. “TheNailBoss” on Instagram. Known for his jaw-dropping nail art, Luu is totally in-demand — so popular, in fact, he’s no longer accepting new clients!

Here, Luu shares his top five summer looks. Take these pics to your favorite nail salon and steal away!

1. Pink Passion

This gorgeous jeweled look “was done with colored acrylics,” says Luu. “The matte finish is achieved by leaving the pink as-is after buffing. Only the silver accent fingers are capped with gel.”

    2. Mother’s Day Polka Dots

Luu marked Mother’s Day with a pic of pretty polka-dotted nails. He says this look was “also done with colored acrylics,” and that the dots “were done one dot at a time with colored acrylics after laying down a thin layer of black. When the dots are done,  I cap with clear polish. Shape and file, and  you’re done!”

    3. Sandy Treasures

To create these intricate little beach scenes on a client’s nails, Luu “marbled, double dipping into two different colors and lightly swirling the varnish.  On the middle finger I used acrylic molds, applied outside the nail, which gave a 3-D effect.”

    4. ’80s Retro

Doesn’t this mani remind you of a pair of jam shorts your brother wore in the 80s? Maybe that’s just us—but anyway, we love them! To get the look, Luu used “colored acrylics. Each color was sculpted one color at a time. The print was done with gel paint.” Totally tubular.

    5. Floral Fingers

This pretty, unique design blends an animal print with a floral motif. “These were done with colored acrylics,” says Luu. “The flowers were sculpted by hand.”
