Steve & Mia: Coming out while going out

Q: I RECENTLY decided to start dating women instead of men. The woman I'm involved with works with me and she's a known lesbian. She's been out for years.

I'm still becoming comfortable identifying myself this way. At home, everything's fine, but when we are out, I feel uncomfortable holding hands. It feels like everyone is staring at us. A few times she has reached for me and I just turned away. I know this must hurt her feelings, and I hate myself for feeling embarrassed. Help!

Mia: Don't be so hard on yourself, chica. It's going to take a while to adjust to your new life. Remind your girlfriend that you're still a newbie. Tell her how you're feeling, and make sure she understands that what's going on with you has nothing to do with her.

In time, you'll get over it. Meanwhile, relax!

Steve: Don't be so self-conscious. The vast majority of people won't care, and the tiny minority who might look on disapprovingly aren't worth your time. Mia's right: Relax.

Q: I was wondering why women don't swallow. My wife says it's nasty. In 10 years of marriage, she hasn't done it once. Any thoughts on what most women think?

Steve: Not sure I've seen a study on that topic, but tastes vary. I hate Brussels sprouts. Some people love 'em. If my wife tried to make me eat them, I would resent it. Why ask why? It's not worth the hassle.

Mia: You could try eating more fruits and vegetables to see if that changes the taste of things. There are even adult products you can buy over-the-counter that claim to help. Or you could just be happy that you have a hot, sexy mama willing to satisfy you in every way but this. It's up to you.
