The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show returns for 137th year

USA Network and CNBC will be home to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show for the 31st consecutive year.

Here's what to watch: There are two new breeds competing at Westminster in 2013. The Russell Terrier, considered the ultimate working earth terrier due to its tiny size and unique chest, and the Treeing Walker Coonhound, known for its ability to track and tree wild raccoons.

Monday, February 11

8-11 p.m. (ET) live on USA Network

The 137th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will produce live coverage via streaming video on its website of all of the breed judging in each of the 187 breeds and varieties. Since 2005, breed judging highlights have been carried on the website on streaming video on a delayed basis, but this year, for the first time, this important part of the show will be covered live and in its entirety with real-time posting on www.westminsterkennelclub.org.

 

Breed Competition

In breed competition, the following classes are offered in each sex: Bred By Exhibitor, American Bred, Open, Winners.

Best of Breed competition: The Westminster Kennel Club offers a Sterling Silver Medallion for BEST OF BREED/VARIETY and an Antique-Finished Medallion for BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX in each Breed or Variety of Breed.

The following ribbon prizes will be awarded:

Best of Breed/Variety: Purple & Gold Rosette

Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety: Red & White Rosette

Best of Winners: Blue & White Rosette

Winners Dog & Winners Bitch: Purple Rosette

Reserve Winners Dog & Bitch: Purple & White Rosette

Grand Champion Select: Light Blue & White Rosette

The Westminster Kennel Club offers the following ribbons for First (Blue), Second (Red), Third (Yellow) and Fourth (White) in each regular class.

 

Group Competition

The Westminster Kennel Club offers a Silver Plated Trophy for First for the following categories: Sporting Group, Hound Group, Working Group, Terrier Group, Toy Group, Non-Sporting Group, and Herding Group. Also offered are Rosettes with WKC Medal in center for First, Second, Third and Fourth Prize Winners in each Variety Group.

 

Best In Show & Reserve Best In Show

The Westminster Kennel Club offers a Purple & Gold Rosette for Best in Show. For Reserve Best in Show, the WKC offers a Gold & Purple Rosette. In addition, the WKC offers a Silver Plated Trophy for Best in Show or the James Mortimer Memorial Sterling Silver Trophy for Best in Show if won five times by the same owner.

 

AKC and WKC Partner To Help Sandy Victims

In honor of the people and their pets affected by Hurricane Sandy, the American Kennel Club Humane Fund, Inc. and The Westminster Kennel Club have each donated $10,000 to the Humane Fund's newly-created "Sandy Fund." This $20,000 grant and other donations to the Sandy Fund will assist organizations that provide support and services for dogs and owners faced with the challenges of natural disaster.
