What are the odds? Likely names for Prince William and Kate Middleton's newborn

18 to 1? That's the odds that Prince William and mother-to-be Kate Middleton — ahem, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge — will name their expectant newborn "Diana."

Seems a bit high, perhaps, considering the sentimentality attached to the name for William, but that's the bet you can get through SkyBet, one of Britian's many betting parlors.

The British are famous for their willingness to place some pounds on eclectic bets. So not surprisingly, the country's 9,000 or so oddsmakers are taking wagers on the name of the Royal couple's firstborn child, who is due any minute now.

The favorites, according to SkyBet (and most of Britain's largest bookies): Alexandra (5/2) and Charlotte (13/2). That means for every two pounds you wager on Alexandra, you'd win five pounds.

As for boy's names, the favorites are: George (15/2) and James (11/1).

What about the country's Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth? Her name comes in near the top at 12/1.

The Brits are apparently not confident William's father, the Prince of Wales, will get a namesake: Charles comes in at 50/1.

In any case, most Royal observers are confident William and Kate won't follow the path many members of American royalty take, with names like Apple and Blue Ivy.
