Kiddin' Around: Harlem Globetrotters in Wildwood
Americas iconically fun basketball team take over the Jersey Shore with daytime clinics, nighttime games and Baby Parade appearance.
The long: Summertime tradition just five years old, the visit of America's iconic, talented, trick- basketball team dominates this week in Wildwood with appearances, clinics-and farcical games vs. the Washington Generals.
The short: Georgia Brown is sweet. Sweet J is sweeter.
Rare opp: This is the red-white-and-blue shortsters' only stateside stop this summer.
Today: The Trotters are so big at the beach, Wildwood moved its 106th annual Baby Parade so as not to interfere with a game. As thanks, stars Bull Bullard (Delaware's own), Sweet J (the team's 12th female player) and 5-2 Too Tall grand marshal the procession.
About that parade: Free to attend and to enter your tot(s). Registration is 4:30-5:15 p.m. at the Convention Center. Route runs along Boardwalk to 16th Street, 6 p.m.
The days: Two-hour skills clinics as campy as they are camp-like teach fundamentals and life lessons to kids ages 6 to 12. Experience not required. Sneakers are. Tomorrow-Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon, $49 per day per student (includes $45-voucher to game). Space limited to 75.
The nights: Larger-than-life games promise all-age fun. After all, the team has been around since 1926, which means even Grandma gets it.
Thursday: Mascot Globie stops by beaches in Wildwood and the Crest to throw out 1,000 free Frisbees.
Long wait: Catch them this week, or be prepared to wait till March when they play the Wells Fargo and Liacouras centers.
