Back-to-school inspired fun DIY projects

The school bell will soon be ringing for our kids and with its chiming, summer will come to an end. It’s hard to believe that the sun soaked days of summer are already drawing to a close but it’s true.

While it can be stressful to get your kids ready to head back to class and even a little sad (especially if this is your child’s first year in school), it can also be an exciting time of change.

If you need proof that fall is in the air, just take a look at any store and you’ll be hit with a barrage of back to school deals and sales. Seriously, as you make your way through a store you’ll be simply inundated with back to school promotions meant to entice you and send your kids into a “must-have” frenzy. With all of the gear kids require, such as clothes, shoes, electronics, backpacks, and school supplies, this time of year can be expensive for parents.

For parents who could use a little assistance in purchasing school supplies this year, they should explore the numerous options available to obtain free school supplies or cheap school supplies.

Honestly though, the stress on parents’ wallets pales in comparison to the stress put on themselves. In addition to school supply lists longer than most Christmas wish lists parents have a lengthy list of to-dos loaded with back to school responsibilities.

With all of these tasks piling up, it can be hard to remember the leisurely afternoons at the pool, picnics in the park, and staying up late to watch movies. However, don’t let all of the back to school stress ruin what is left of your summer.

Make a point of squeezing just a little bit more fun out of summer before putting the kids on the school bus. Look for fun activities that are frugal (since most of your money will probably be going to satisfy that school supply list) and get your kids excited about heading back to school.

For example, for little learners, try this school themed free printable coloring sheet. They’ll have a blast bringing this back to school picture to life.

For older students who want to exercise their DIY skills encourage them to customize their school supplies with craft store finds like washi tape which comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Their creativity and personal style will shine when they transform their boring notebooks and pencils with washi tape into stylish school supplies they’ll be proud to carry down the hall.

Not only is this DIY back to school project fun but it’ll show your kids there’s no need to purchase those expensive school supplies that “all the cool kids have”.

These frugal back to school inspired DIY projects are just the thing to have fun during the remaining days of summer and get your kids pumped up about school. Plus, they will remind you that not everything associated with back to school has to be stressful.

Here’s to a successful (and frugal) school year!
