10 easy DIY Advent ideas to countdown to Christmas

Make an easy DIY countdown to Christmas!

Our home is a bit magical around the holidays. I have two young boys and they are full of giggles and excitement. My husband and I never let them forget the real meaning of Christmas, but we also let them enjoy all the whimsy and fun the season brings too.

One of our favorite traditions is our advent calendar. It’s not too late, you know! You don’t have to start on Dec. 1; you can start any day in December!

Up until this year we had a lovely monogrammed tree advent from Pottery Barn. It’s darling, but it only holds a small candy and/or a slip of paper with a little note. (I tend to write the exciting Christmas event of the day on a slip of paper, whether that be making cookies, watching a Christmas special together, or doing a craft project.)

Then last year we bought LEGO advents too. They loved it! This year we looked at the LEGO advents again, but they were a bit similar to last year’s set so I decided to whip up a quick and easy DIY LEGO advent. The hardest part of this project was separating the LEGOs (from the 2013 Christmas Village Set) into my mini boxes. And on days when they don’t fit, the boys get to go on a little scavenger hunt around the house, which they LOVE!
