More than half of global Fortune 500 companies use SHL’s occupational personality questionnaire (OPQ) to assess someone’s suitability for a job. Now, the test is available at your fingertips with SHL’s iPhone app, iPQ. For $0.99, the app helps young job seekers identify their strengths, suitable careers and personal attributes that could help or hinder them in an interview.
The iPQ Career Planner app, available from iTunes, allows the user to take a test, then generates a report summarizing key skills, best career matches, areas for improvement and advice on what to emphasize in an interview.
“People need to know what their strengths and weaknesses are in order to address them and match their skills to the right job,” says Paul Levett, chief product officer, SHLPreVisor, Atlanta.
Whether a person will find the report useful or enlightening depends on his or her level of self-awareness. The results might not justify the dollar spent so much as the test-taking process itself. The app uses the same methods corporations rely on to help make hiring decisions. Going into an interview, it helps to know what to expect.
