So much for honoring the great tradition of City Title football games.

In just Year No. 2 of resumptions, there's a glitch in Class AA.

Because Districts 12 and 1 must combine for subregionals, Catholic champ West Catholic will not meet Public kingpin Edward Bok Tech Saturday. Instead, a doubleheader at the South Philly Super Site will feature Bok vs. Lower Moreland at noon and West vs. Bishop McDevitt at 4.

Are you laughing? Scratching your head? Yes, that'll be the third meeting between West and McDevitt in 4 weeks. (Isn't the PIAA wonderful?)

Also, McDevitt is the second seed and West is the third even though the Burrs won the teams' first two meetings by a combined score of 63-19. Huh? Blame a complicated power-point system that was frozen a while back and worked to West's disadvantage because of its tougher schedule.

The City Title thing hindered Bok last year. While the Wildcats were getting crunched by West, 55-0, for the CT, the Pub AA runner-up, Ben Franklin, was getting an easier opponent in Lower Moreland. The next week, West spanked Franklin, 56-6.

Joe Stanley, the Pub football chairman, said this new plan was devised by assorted D-12/D-1 honchos.

"We could still have the City Title next week," he said. "I'd have to think Bok should beat Lower Moreland, right?"

Despite losing star running back Bernard Pierce, Temple continues to roll. Just ask fellow freshman Matt Brown.

Matt Brown ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns, and Delano Green had two scores to lead Temple to a 47-13 win over Kent State, keeping the Owls on course for a Mid-American Conference title game appearance.
