Drexel, Villanova women reach final of Wildcat Classic

Drexel advanced to the championship game of the Wildcat Classic with a 69-58 win over Loyola (Md.) in a women's basketball game at the Pavilion yesterday.

Gabriela Marginean posted a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Kamile Nacickaite added 18 for the Dragons (6-4). Miriam McKenzie netted 16 to lead Loyola (4-6).

Drexel will play Villanova tonight at 7:30. The Wildcats cruised past San Francisco, 67-35, in the nightcap. Laura Sweeney led Villanova (10-2) with 15 points and Megan Pearson added 11. Vania Singletary led San Francisco with nine.

In other women's games:

* At Saint Joseph's, Dominque Bryant's 11-point effort led the Hawks past Brown, 65-36, to advance to the championship game of the annual Hawk Classic at Hagan Arena.

Brown went on an 6-0 run to tie the contest midway through the second half, but a 16-6 run by the Hawks (5-7) silenced Brown. Christina Johnson (11 points) led the Bears (3-8).

Saint Joseph's (5-7) will play Boston University in the championship game today at 4 p.m. Boston U. beat South Carolina, 68-67.

* At Akron, Marli Bennett's 11 points led Temple in a 55-43 win over the Zips. The Owls (10-2) opened the second half with a 14-1 run.

Temple will host No. 8 Duke at McGonigle Hall Thursday at 2 p.m.
