GA’s Cameron Ayers picks Bucknell

In the battle of nell schools seeking Cameron Ayers' basketball services, Buck beat Cor.

Ayers, a 6-4, 195-pound senior guard at Germantown Academy and the son of Sixers assistant (and one-time head coach) Randy Ayers, had the feeling he wanted to choose Bucknell even last summer. This morning, he finally acted on it.

At roughly 10:30, he placed a you've-got-me call to Bucknell coach Dave Paulsen and, yes, the latter was rather ecstatic.

Did he jump through the phone?

"He almost did," Ayers said.

Ayers made official visits to Bucknell and Cornell. He checked out Temple unofficially and was also involved with Miami (Ohio).

Temple, of course, enjoys the highest profile of those programs. Ayers said he loves coach Fran Dunphy, but shied away from Temple "because it's a little too close to home and I'm not really a heart-of-the-city guy."

Ayers took his time to make the decision for solid reasons.

"It's tough. It's the next four years of your life. You want to make sure you're picking the right place," he said. "I wanted a place with strong academics, and where I knew I'd fit in socially. I want to prepare myself for he world and make lifelong friends.

"I felt good about Bucknell back in August. Since then that name kept appearing in my mind."
