Sidney Crosby is seen as a torchbearer for the NHL, and now he'll carry the Olympic torch in his home province of Nova Scotia. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain will run in the torch relay Nov. 18 in Halifax, and will play for Canada in the Olympic hockey tournament during the Winter Games in Vancouver in February.

"The torch relay will pass through so many communities and hands on the way to Vancouver, and I'm privileged to be part of that special group," said Crosby, who is from Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia.

Other Canadian athletes scheduled to carry the torch include former Vancouver Canucks captain Trevor Linden, NBA star Steve Nash and golfer Stephen Ames.

Crosby will be one of an expected 12,000 torchbearers in the relay, which begins in Victoria, British Columbia on Friday. It will stop in every province and territory over 106 days, leading to the lighting of the cauldron at BC Place in Vancouver. The games will be held Feb. 12-28 in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., followed by the Paralympics from March 12-21.

* Dallas forward Steve Ott has been suspended two games for a low hit on St. Louis Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo. Ott will forfeit $34,756 in salary, and won't be eligible to return to the lineup until Saturday.

* Columbus has placed center Andrew Murray on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. He is expected to miss at least 4 weeks.

* Minnesota has recalled goaltender Anton Khudobin from AHL Houston while Josh Harding recovers from unspecified soreness in his lower body.

In last night's games:

* At Edmonton, Craig Anderson had a shutout and Wojtek Wolski scored twice as Colorado defeated the Oilers, 3-0.

* At Vancouver, Jason Williams scored a power-play goal to break a tie at 14:57 of the third period and Pavel Datsyuk scored twice to lead the Detroit Red Wings over the Canucks, 5-4.

Canucks center Ryan Johnson was carried off the ice on a stretcher after sliding headfirst into the end boards early in the second period. Johnson was taken to a nearby hospital for further observation, though a team spokesperson said he was alert and had full movement.
