Temple to host Villanova at Linc for first time since 2003

As anticipated, the Temple-Villanova football game at Lincoln Financial Field on Sept. 3 will kick off at 7 p.m. It's their first meeting since the Wildcats beat the Owls in the first college game at the Linc on Sept. 6, 2003, in double-overtime. The Phillies are hosting the Giants that night at Citizens Bank Park.

Four of the Owls' other five home games will start at either noon or 1 on Saturdays: Buffalo on Sept. 26; Ball State on Oct. 10; Army (ESPN) on Oct. 17; and Kent State on Nov. 21. The game against Miami (Ohio) is another Thursday-nighter, beginning at 7:30.

The road schedule starts at Penn State on Sept. 19 at noon. The Owls also play at Eastern Michigan on Oct. 3 at 1; at Toledo on Oct. 24 at 7; at Navy on Oct. 31 at 3:30; at Akron on Friday, Nov. 13, at 8; and at Ohio on Friday, Nov. 27, at 2.

The Mid-American Conference championship is Friday, Dec. 4, in Detroit (ESPN2) at 8.

The Owls have received their sixth verbal commitment for the 2010 recruiting class. Anthony Robey, a 5-11, 175-pound cornerback from Norristown High who has been timed at 4.3 seconds over 40 yards, had also generated interest from Pitt and Maryland. He attended the June 20 Al Golden football camp. *

NEWS
Margie Cason had just seen her grandson, Curtis Brinkley off. She became dizzy, feeling as if she was going to pass out. As she went to rest, the telephone rang: A hysterical voice on the phone told her that Curtis had been shot.
Meanwhile, Brinkley was asking nurses: "Am I going to be able to play football again?" Brinkley still holds the city-league record for rushing yardage, and had been signed by the San Diego Chargers.
