North Penn went into the PIAA baseball playoffs as the fifth and final seed from District 1 in Class AAAA, but today is a state champion.

The Knights (20-6), behind starting pitcher Eric Ruth's six-hitter and two hits and two runs scored by No. 9 hitter Mark Grassie, downed District 11's Parkland, 3-1, at Blair County Ball Park in Altoona yesterday.

The championship game will be televised tonight at 9:30 on the Comcast Network. *
