The Eagles and Favre? Huh?

While your Eagletarian tried to keep up with all the twists in the Brian Westbrook agent sweepstakes (the evening became morning without Westbrook hiring Todd France, despite all the reports he had done so), our poor brain was taxed by something that made even less sense.

   The following appeard on SportingNews.com:

"While the Philadelphia Eagles are taking it easy with Donovan McNabb in training camp as he works his way back from a shoulder injury, that hasn't stopped them from going after some potential insurance. The Packers made a call to the Eagles Wednesday about potentially trading for retired quarterback Brett Favre, ESPN reports."

OK. The Eagles are seeking insurance, because they answered the phone? But in fact, the item doesn't even say the Eagles answered the phone. The Eagles are seeking insurance because the Packers called them?

Your guess is as good as ours. Probably better.

To quote the late Margaret Hamilton, "What a world."Margaret Hamilton never blogged, or wrote nonsense about nonexistent trade talks.

Meanwhile, it stands to reason the Packers would check with the Eagles, given the relationship between Andy Reid and Favre. But that doesn't mean Favre is coming. In fact, he absolutely is not coming.

     You heard it here first.

So why are we wasting your time writing this?

Because every time some random bit of incoherent nonsense hits the internet, we are expected to spring into action.

Favre coming back at this point will only embarass him more than he already has. The man can't be very smart to call the Vikings on the cell phone issued to him by the Packers.

If Brett Favre doesn't want to be in GB...that's fine. But the WAY he's going about it shows that he's a complete and utter jackass. The man has absolutely no class and is showing to everyone that he does not care about the fans that cheered for him every Sunday for what, 16yrs???

It was pretty stupid or maybe Brett just doesn't care about getting caught.I still think the man can play after watching him last year.A 12-4 record isn't a fluke. If he really wants to play I think Washington might be a good choice if they're willing to sit Jason Campbell on the bench.Tampa Bay might also make sense or even the Titans.

It looks like the Wicked Witch of the West is a big Eagles fan....she's got her game face on!

Getting Favre would make the Lance Parrish acquisition look great in Philly history. Dumba$$ Bret is going to go out, for whomever, as a total loser. It won't be pretty.

The cowboys would sign him for his marketing/ticket selling power. Jerry Jones will do ANYTHING for a buck.

Favre for a No. 2 draft choice and trade McNabb to Minnesota for a No. 1 or 2 and a wide receiver. That way, Kolb could learn from a master and possibly be ready to play full time next year should Favre really retire

This article was pretty pointless

Donovan McNabb is by far the best QB in Eagles history. Why all the hostility?

Pendian - your theory is broken because Farve has ignored Aaron Rogers for 3 years now, publicly refusing to mentor the future of the Packers. But because the press is so enamored with the guy, the story made little news. The current fiasco is just further proof that Brett only cares about Brett.

I don't agree - to respond to it only adds to it's life. To Filthadelphia and Simon - you guys (I assume although ) sound like people who have never played or watcched sports - what are you from Norway or something - to say he sucks or is an underachiever and loser is to show your complete ignorance...I admit he's no Tony Romo with all of his success! Do you get it? If you can not win a playoff game then you are not successful in this league. Obviously, winning it all is the ultimate measure of success in this league. There have been thousands of QB's to have played in the NFL - do you wanna guess how many individual winning super bowl qb's there are? Something on the order of 20 - 25....genius'!

Every single diehard rational Eagles fan wants McNabb gone, he can't win the big one, we know that. Reid can't get it done any longer either. But Favre isn't an ideal replacement. The Eagles should be starting Kolb this year, but instead, we are all in for another disappointing year. This is the last year we will see of McNabb, Westbrook & Runyan. 2009 will start the rebuilding year.
About The Daily News' Eagles Blog
Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his 26 years at the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, where he spent 3 years as the sports editor of the school paper and zero semesters on the dean's list, Domo came to the Daily News from the Fort Worth (Tx.) Star-Telegram, where he covered some very bad Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually was boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose two sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, who is a University of Oklahoma grad and is dangerous to be around following a Sooner loss, have been married 27 years and have raised 2 terrific daughters – Allison, 23, who attends Boston University School of Law; and Amy, 21, a sports marketing major at Clemson. When he's not writing about football, Domo enjoys reading Robert Parker, John Sandford and Harlan Coben novels and playing pickup basketball when his arthritic hip doesn't object.
