BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- This morning's Eagles training camp practice was canceled due to a water main break near the practice fields at Lehigh University.

The water main break happened sometime overnight at the A. Haigh Cundey Varsity House, which is located right next to the Whitehead Football Practice Fields on Lehigh's Goodman Campus, an Eagles spokesman said.

Eagles equipment manager John Hatfield, the first one at the fields this morning, discovered the break around 5 a.m.

The building serves as the Eagles locker room. Without water, there are no showers and the training staff can not properly treat players.

Also, the water spilled onto the adjacent practice fields, causing significant flooding in some areas. Crews are working now in an attempt to fix the water main and bring the fields up to playing shape.

The Eagles remain scheduled to practice at 2:45 p.m. today, but if the water main is not repaired by then, that practice will also be canceled. An announcement will be made later today.

It does give the players a reprieve. Since the entire team reported, the Eagles have practiced on eight straight mornings.

CPS....I thought the same thing. I would love to see what the "official" cause of the break is made out to be.

Dave Spuadauro indicated that Michael Gasperson looked impressive during the water main break, and that Dan Klecko "really has a motor"

Bob Brookover, left, is in his seventh year of covering the Philadelphia Eagles after spending 15 years covering the Philadelphia Phillies for the Inquirer and two other newspapers. The 45-year-old Brookover lives in Delran with his wife Francine and roots for Notre Dame and Michigan State, the two schools attended by his children, Justine and Ryan. When Notre Dame plays Michigan State, he cheers for the school of the child he likes more at that particular moment.

Jeff McLane, right, joined the Eagles beat in April 2009 after two years of covering colleges, namely Penn State football. Before that he covered high school sports for The Inquirer. Before that he worked in the mailroom (not quite). Informed that his father is no longer covering the Lions, McLane's eldest, three-year-old son said, "You mean Simba, Scar and Mufasa, Daddy?" His two-year-old son -- excited about the move to the Eagles -- said, "Go, Deigo, Go!" or something like that. His wife of five-plus years, however, had a different take on the new job. "Another five years is in question," she said. Check out McLane on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the Eagles.
