Inquirer staff writer Joelle Farrell reports:
An Amtrak train struck a teenager who was standing on the rails in Sharon Hill, Delaware County this afternoon, Amtrak officials said.
The teenager, whose name and age were not immediately available, was transported by helicopter to an unidentified hospital, and no further information on the teen’s condition was immediately available, said Marc Magliari, an Amtrak spokesman. No one onboard the train was injured.
The Crescent #19 Train, which operates daily from New York to New Orleans, was headed west at about 4:15 p.m. when it struck the teenager, who had trespassed onto Amtrak property and was on the rails, said Magliari.
Magliari said accidents like these are sad but preventable as long as people stay off Amtrak property.
