S.J. couple charged with taking softball league money

A South Jersey couple has been charged with stealing funds from a girls' softball organization they helped oversee, authorities said.

Daniel and Malissa O'Hara of Pemberton Township allegedly spent more than $3,600 belonging to the Central Burlington Girls Fastpitch Softball League between May and October. David O'Hara, 34, was president of the organization and Malissa O'Hara, 35, was treasurer.

The couple allegedly used the money for personal use. According to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, the O'Haras spent the misappropriated funds on gas, cigarettes, movie tickets, and several household bills.

The O'Haras, who were arrested Friday and released without bail, were immediately expelled from the league. They did not have children playing in the league at the time of the thefts, said a spokesman for prosecutor's office.
