Eagles coach Andy Reid said safety Brian Dawkins has a mild tendon strain in his right ankle and both said they expect Dawkins to be ready for the season opener against St. Louis in 2 weeks.
"That's the plan," Dawkins said.
However, Reid added that Dawkins was day-to-day. He did not practice Sunday.
Dawkins was injured in the second quarter of Friday's preseason game against New England. He limped to the sideline and was later carted off to the locker room. Dawkins said he had faith the injury was not that serious from his past experiences with similar situations.
"Brian is feeling better, particularly better than he did during the game and after the game, so it’s not quite as bad as what we thought," Reid said.
Added Dawkins: “It wouldn’t say I was scared; I would say I was frustrated more than anything because I wanted to finish out that last little bit of action with the ones out there and get off the field. It was frustrating in that respect ... It’s just one of those things that, when you have an injury after the game, you get a little sore. After that, it starts feeling a lot better.”
Dawkins said he hopes to get back on the practice field as soon as possible.
"I want to make sure I keep my conditioning where it is right now," he said. "I’m in a pretty good spot. I’m going to do what I need to get back on the field ...
"I’ve always said I’m a practice guy; I like to practice. I like to put myself in tough situations and practice, so that when game time comes, the game is hopefully a lot slower than it already is for me. I’m a practice guy and I like to practice.”
Also, not practicing Sunday was wide receiver Reggie Brown, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. Reid said he did not expect Brown to practice this week and he did not expect him to play Thursday night against the Jets in the preseason finale. Center Jamaal Jackson also sat out with a mild concussion.
Defensive end Chris Clemons (calf) returned to practice.
“Chris will have an opportunity to get out there, as long as he makes it through practice here healthy," Reid said. "He’ll have an opportunity to get out and probably play both sides and show what he can do there.”
Reid would not commit to sitting the starters against the Jets, although that is what he usually does.
"We have a long time before that first game, so I’m contemplating on that as we speak,” he said.

It is a GREAT IDEA- why get a futer Hall of Famer hurt in a meaningless pre season game??!!??— almar169- eaglesfan4life you might want to read my message again I clearly say the preseason not the rest of the year. I would like to see Demps get extended playing time in this last game. He may be your safety of the future. If I was Andy I wouldn't play most of the starters in a meaningless preseason game.
