Reggie Brown to Bucs
Les Bowen
There is no NFL salary cap, and Reggie Brown is no longer being held hostage in Philadelphia by the cap penalty the Eagles would pay for jettisoning him. The team just announced that the once-promising wideout is going to Tampa Bay for an undisclosed 2011 pick, which the Tampa Tribune says is a sixth-rounder.
Brown, a second-round draft choice in 2005, set a team rookie receiving record that year, but the past two years have seen a steady, puzzling decline that resulted in him barely being used at all in 2009. He went from 61 catches in 2007 to 9 last season.

- When the poll first came up asking if we got enough for him the article still was saying it was an undisclosed draft choice. Wha'ts hilarious is that over 70% of the people were voting yes even though they had no idea what the pick was.
I actually think we made out on this deal!!! They could have given us a pack of tape and an athletic supporter for Reggie!!! fly4philly
Well at least we got something. It will be more interesting to see if keeping Stacy Andrews turns out to be a good move. We have so much money invested in him now that we can't cut the cord. goomba102
I will always be an eagles fan, some of the moves this team has made r just pathetic. It was clear that this defense needs upgrades at the linebacker saefty and dl position and they r doing absolutely nothing in free agency I still cannot grasp the concept of the witherspoon release. I know because he is 30 and due 5 million and thats always been the eagles theme, but witherspoon was always the best linebacker last season on this team. Yes stewart bradley is coming back but can u really rely on him and that knee..Maybe they bring back spoon for less money and i hope that happens, but u wasted gibson and a pick for this? Makes no sense. Hope something big is coming on the draft if not better hope they draft someone accidently that can contribute..maybe they might trade that person away too. By the way i like this move..just not a significant move..so who cares? bigjay215- Move along, nothing to see here. Eagles got low-value pick for low-value player. Next.
- Let's not get too bend out of shape about (another) wasted second round pick...didn't we fleece this pick from Miami for AJ Feely who ended up back with us the next season or two anyway? But to the fact that it was a bad draft choice...cannot argue with that. Another in along line of Reid wasted picks.
- He was a disappointment. And he dropped too many balls.
LOL!! Looks like the Eagles will be runaway winners in down-sizing team payroll this year. Now this is the real Joe "Nickels" Banner! He's showing off for his new boy, Howie, I bet. Folks, get ready for a 6 - 10 season, regardless of who the QB is...and Banner, Roseman, and Lurie are laughing all the way to the bank. Super Bowl? This team? With this ownership?? LMAO!!!!!! wingnut12
This team stinks. I approve of this move, but this team is cheap and all they care about is money, no championship, but just money. I will never believe in this team ever again as long as Lurie is owner. He just makes sure this team is just good enough so fans fill the seats. I have given up on this team years ago. I thought it was amusig how they waive their in my opinon "Best" available LB that they had last year because they did not want to pay him 5 million, yet they pay horrible Chris Gocong 4.5 million? What a joke. djax10
I wish they could bring back Brandon Gibson. Oh well, in this years draft, it has been projected to be significant value in the later rounds. Something is better than nothing or it could be part of deal with Michael Vick. Something is up and when the draft comes...its boom or bust. AJW2009
HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TRADED LAST YEAR WHEN THEY GOT RID OF L.J. SMITH,,,,,,, GREAT MOVE NOW LOW THROW MCBLOW SHOULD BE NEXT. bow
Shrug dasher
Wow love these moves by the Eagles I smell Super Bowl now! slade1955
reggie seemed to do better with garcia. never really clicked with McNabb notch44
How come father of the year Andy Reid never gets critized for the large chunk of change wasted on Reggie Brown, Jeremone McDougle etc...he is the worst game manager and worst Gm in the league. Dr. Michael

Eagles move of the decade!!! Great work guys!..... RoastedBird
Another Second Rounder like Kolb. Wasted picks! Seed- I remember not long ago the organization was telling us not to worry about losing T.O. because they had drafted Reggie Brown. Maybe the sixth round wide receiver we draft with the pick we got from Tampa Bay will be in Todd Pinkston's league. Nothing to see here of course, because we all know the gold standard is making all the right moves.
- The question is, did the Bucs get enough for that coveted 6th rounder...? Let's see, TB's QB situation is in shambles with 2 2nd year players, and the Birds trade this guy to them? If the 9 catches for the season and lack of use didn't prove it, the trade destination proved Brown was in the doghouse big time. kjuggs77
- Eagles: "We know you need a wideout, and we got a, uh, former 2nd rounder who set a rookie receiving record and mayyybe available for the right price..." Tampa: "Wow!! DeSe--" Eagles: "Nononononoo. No. Nooooo. Sorry, we meant Reggie Br--" Tampa: "We'll give you a 7th." Eagles: "Sixth. And a sleeve of golfballs." Tampa: "Those new Titleists?" Eagles: "(long pause) Whatever"
Reggie should have been let go 2 years ago, this is late in coming but thank goodness it happened. We lost what might have been another good WR in Gibson last year because of holding onto this clown. He'll fit well in the Bay area. realtruth- 35TH pick over all the question isn't did the eagles get enough it should be did AR mess up (again) drafting him..... YES! JKJSMCD
jjfn- right on! disgruntled fan
At this level, it's all about separation from the defensive back covering you; Reggie never succeeded in that area. Adam Smythe
I forgot he was a 2nd rd pick.. I really did not understand why he lost so much playing time, I think he can be a solid number two. dennismithusa
this is what we got rid of hank basskum for? this is what we wasted #@#$*& roster spot for all season...a lousy sixth round pick??!!??? how much money does the lurner (or is that banie?) need?????? xatsmann
Biggest non-issue of the offseason. Not even pertinent. But I was nervous for a sec, thought you meant Sheldon Brown at first glance. hallux
LMAO!!!!!!! Did Buddy Ryan actually say that?? Who was it about? That's hilarious!!! oirerflaksdjflijfifasdf- Ya beat me to the punch ryno…pretty sad if this goes down as the biggest addition (by subtraction) move the Eagles make this offseason. Wonder if all this cap penalty stuff ultimately led to Brandon Gibson being traded instead of just releasing Brown. (I do wish Reggie luck though. Maybe a fresh start will help re-start his career.)
As Buddy Ryan once said "I'd trade him for a six pack, and it doesn't have to be cold". JJFN
yeah, my life is in roman ruins like shambles, bits of broken rock and powder because my football team is making all the wrong moves. I know I complain about all their moves, and don't wait for actual results. Truth...I just like to complain and blame my sour existence on the Eagles. retzlaff
WOO!!! Taking out the trash!!! absinthetic8
woohoo! now i get to laugh at all my buc fan friends tampaPhillyfan
What kind of value were you expecting for a backup WR (4th-5th) who is making a fair amount in base salary? This was a salary dump by the Eagles for a guy who was making a fair amount for a backup. MG77
Good Riddins! Phront_Runner
Hardly relevant at all. The moves and lack of moves the Eagles have made thus far is nothing short of perplexing. ant8817
No he was not SOLID...having bricks for hands and the football IQ of a turnip is not solid!! brickhead
Reggie was a solid WR when he was healthy. There's nothing puzzling about his so-called decline. He was just wasn't as explosive and talented as Desean and Maclin. He'll have a decent career when all is said and done. soulman386
