Police ID woman slain in Kensington hit-and-run

The woman lying in the street by the entrance to a desolate Family Dollar store in Kensington was ran over twice about 8:10 p.m. on Christmas.

  • A black, tinted-out Dodge Charger turned into the parking lot, running over the woman, then the car reversed over the woman, who was said to be 53 but whose identity police had yet to release Wednesday.
  • The driver, described by witnesses as a Hispanic woman in her 40s, pulled over and walked toward the victim but then quickly got back into her car and fled.

Philadelphia police have identified the woman killed in a hit-and-run crash in Kensington on Christmas Day.

Police said 54-year-old Denise Williams, of the 5400 block of Euclid Street, died after she was run over in the driveway of a Family Dollar store on the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Williams had fallen ill and was lying on the ground when a vehicle turned into the driveway and struck her, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that a Hispanic woman in her 40s got out of the driver side of the vehicle, then got back inside the car and fled.

Police described the striking vehicle as a black Dodge Charger.

Emergency responders took Williams to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a few hours later.
