The Phillies just added a little pitching help.
They have signed righthander Rudy Seanez to a major-league contract, a baseball source confirmed today. Seanez, 39, went 6-3 with a 3.79 ERA and one save in a career-high 73 appearances last season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his 16-year career, he is 36-26 with a 4.15 ERA.
The Dodgers released Seanez last week after a 7.71 ERA in spring training. He had signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Dodgers earlier this year.
Seanez is expected to be in uniform for tomorrow's game against the Nationals.

Someone look up drech and see what it means in Yiddish. I think it translates to Seanez. (and Mesa, and Alfonseca, and so on)

G$Money, here are the Phillies owners
Claire S Betz
David Buck
J Mahlon Buck
Alexander K Buck
John Middleton
William Giles (minor percentage)
David Montgomery (minor percentage)
this is a third test
this is a second test
this is a test.
We lost one game, folks. Sometimes in baseball you lose games. No need to jump off the Walt Whitman (though all of you that think Kyle Lohse is the answer may want to consider it so we can take you out of the gene pool).
When Seanez is on he keeps the ball down and that is a good thing in our bandbox. Good signing.
Well Norma, I really really hope they give the young and touted arms in the minors a shot in the pen or as a starter asap. If they are not gonna trade any of them for a Santana,Bedard, or Haren, they better get them up to the big club ASAP. If your gonna hold onto your prospects, you better let them get a shot when what they already have isnt working.
I heard a little *stat* today from John Brazer. The Phils have lost 9 out of their last 25 Opening Days.
Man, the majority of you guys should have tried out for the Saturday Night Live "The Whiners" skit. Get a grip on life. I suspect some of you even booed the Black Night parachutist who called off the chancy jumps of his comrades.
I agree....What do we have to lose?! My only concern is his age. Even if he's great in the 'pen, what happens in a year or two? We need a good younger arm in relief so they can stick around a while.
I like this!!! He will not disapoint...
Hey G$Money, who would you have liked the Phillies to sign?? There was no good pitching available this winter.

I just heard that both Wally Ritchie, and Freddie Toliver have volunteered to come back and help the bullpen out.
Both are younger than Tom Gordon.
The entire reason they didn't sign Lohse was his agent Boras. (This told to me personally by Dallas Green during spring training) He agreed we could have used him.
Who cares about yesterday, its only one game, they lose every opening day it seems like anyway. Truth, 90% of pitchers are retreads, just look at Romero. I just wish the park would have been a little more electric, sometimes the fans are just sooooo quiet, iys kinda lame!!
I see this last comment went right thru and posted...where's the one where I answered someone's question about Gor-Done's pitch speed?

So what's the deal? If I send an intelligent non abusive but factual comment, does it get dropped off the earth because the "censors" don't like it or agree with it???? What's the deal Todd??? Who have you sold your soul to?
this is a must send to any mets fans.

Jose DeJesus is still out there!
Great read by Sam D. in todays DN.
He basically backed up my belief that this team is a rudderless ship w/out Rowand. Cheapness gets you nowhere. Its so sad...
Supposedly comments that don't immediately post are being reviewed by...someone...the decency board? btw, the stadium boards weren't posting Gordon's pitch speeds and they resumed with Condrey...coincidence?
Comments aren't posting
Do you think the owner group brings their lunches in brown bags to save money when they meet?? Why the big mystery about who the cheapskates are? The people pay for their stadium by subsidizing with tax dollars and we can't even know who it is that won[t spend our monry well??re???
John E Cat: Geary went to the Astros in the Lidge trade.
can't we all just give this pitching staff a chance? it is only the first game, how about a little support
GREAT! Another NOODLE! All we need now is some broth and we'll have a mean soup!
Gaylord Perry is still available
Yeah, this will help. I'm about ready to send my resume. Apparently they are signing anybody with two arms.
If you're not having comments posts, you're not alone. It's a bug that I hope will be fixed soon. Keep me posted here or via e-mail (tzolecki@phillynews.com) if you're comments aren't posting or take a long time to post. I have the same problem.
i do not like the signing seanez
Madson? Come on. You're judging him after a few Opening Day appearances and when he was thrusted into a starters role TWICE, then back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. Last year, he was our best reliever before he got hurt, so I don't see how he's terrible.\
But it's a good signing. A career 0.00 ERA in 7 games at CBP.
I hear Jeff Juden is available too...
Any one else having posts get lost (not showing up)?
Whatever happened to Geoff Geary? He's not great, but he's a lot better than the pieces of crap we have on this team - Madson, Flush Gordon, etc.
Here we go again. Losing in April and May and then sweating the playoffs in July and August. Get rid of Gordon with a subscription to AARP

Loshe pitched well down the stretch last year but his career numbers are not very good 63-74 4.82, even Eaton has better numbers. Seanez is worth a look, nothing to lose, era under 4 last year.
We're going to end up wasting the talent we have now because ownership is to cheap to go out and spend on pitching. The Phillies will never be a top notch franchise under this group. Help us Mark Cuban!! You're our only hope!
Another over the hill loser. Getting up against the Filly bullpen is like doing batting practice!LOL

Ryan Badson sux
This is a CHEAP pickup just like the Phillies organization. Now they can say,"Look, we are always trying to improve our club as long as the price is right". The over and under for his release is June 1st. I'm sure Joe Torre is sorry he lost a STUD Setup reliever in his bullpen. I hope this is an April's Fool joke.
Swap aces?

Maybe we can teach Gordon how to throw a knuckleball...The Niekro brothers pitched well into their nineties with that pitch and it also must be thrown with little velocity (that fits). Maybe all these has beens could learn it.
Hey guys - Calm down - there is a plan in place. I think our Fightin's are good for 110 maybe even 115 wins this year. Here's what we, I mean they, have in mind. By the All Star break, the thinking is that Santana will be less than stellar (around 6 wins). By contrast, Brett Myers will be off to a great start (11 wins). The Mets and the Phils will then swap aces. Santana will take off and finish with 21 wins. Myers only finish with just 13. It's going to happen, trust me on this.
I was there...Gordon looked like he had nothing. In fact, we had that Bernard Marcel Parent sitting near us in the 'cheap' seats. But...you get what you pay for, we don't have Santana (hope he breaks down, though) and our bullpen is as usual...two days ago they had no interest in Seanez, how quickly we need more retreads around here...
This Isn't A Bad Move Guys!Lets See What He Can Do? We Have Absolutely Nothing To Lose.....Had A good Year With Dodgers
Bob, far from it. Over the years, going through school, starting a career, developing other interests, I've become increasingly disinterested in pro sports, but thats another story for a different forum. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings by insulting your idol Brett Myers. Do you need a tissue, fanboy??
Problem is: Madson's ills seem like they're between his ears...
This is for you Zo, to give you a feel for back home. The guys at the 700 level had a link to HRD (which then had a link to this)

Glasgow Celtic are obviously superior to Rangers. Down with the Huns!
His ERA from last year is 131.21 lower than Tom Gordon's ERA this year!
Ahhh the cheap hawks are out again... for the 20 billionth time the Phillies aren’t cheap, they just don’t spend the money wisely all the time. There is a difference. Learn it or look like a moron.
I disagree on Madson, I don’t think he is great, but I think a healthy Madson can be a very useful pitcher.
Time to play shoulda Coulda...wanna win spend $$$. Myers was fine closer. Agreed he can be a good pitcher but they had success where he was. AND there was pitching available: Just no relief pitching. They were cheap. They did not spend for the one big name guy out there. He went to there number one rival...and they will pay for it all year. Same as always.
Jesus 161 games left so all of you Morons doggin the Phils get a life I must say if Lidge isn't right after he gets off the DL then I don't know how long just beers will get you through the ninth, may have to graduate to hard core drugs as if I am watching the birds in the fall....
Lohse is not the answer, repeat, is not the answer. Anybody hear who was removed from the roster?
Loren, you sound like a jock sniffer. Are you?
"Your Phillies are a joke." Go kick a puppy, you'll feel better. Go Phils!
Yeah, I don't understand why they dind't sign Lohse. Apparently he was willing to do a 1 year deal?? Good pitcher, good guy in the clubhouse. I'm at a loss.
Madson needs to go....fast.
The worse that can happen is that there is not another Romero to save the day. Your Phillies are a joke. They should have signed Lohse and used him wherever whenever needed.
Being CHEAP leads to loses....
Ditto on Madson, can't figure what they see either. Figure Helms and Lahey get dumped for Seanez and Lidge? Maybe Condrey? Gotta carry 12 pitchers.
I don't know if you watched the 9th inning yesterday....
IT DOESN'T HURT TO ADD HIM, BESIDES WHAT'S THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN!!
Totally agree about Madson. Guy is riding off his first year and has pretty much gotten worse every year since.

The stats above are pretty good. Been around, worth a look. Why's your buddy with the "loser" comment still hanging around like a bad smell, JM? I was a hoping a loss like yesterday would have scared him off. Somebody still needs a hug.
loren, that was some seriously ignorant stuff. do you hang out in the clubhouse a lot? myers is good, youre an idiot.

how many days until Gordon goes on the DL? i'll set the over/under at 4 days
Yes it is a bad pick up because you have a 39 or 40 years old closer that arm is know good
Great. Maybe the Phils will get rid of Madson now. All he does is give up bombs! Besides his rookie year, he has done nothing but give late inning moon shots! They need to get rid of him and his boy Myers. He pitches well, then he gets flustered then blows up. Bad seed in the clubhouse too. Let the big 3 infielders take over the team. Myers hanging around with his attitude providing "veteran leadership" is not good.
Are there any relievers available that were born in the 80s? I'd even settle for the late 70s.

Who got the boot to make room for him? If it is Helms, then who gets the boot when Lidge is ready?
John in LA, you saw him last season, what's the scouting report?
Loser it's another retread....
This is not a bad pick-up.
