Phila. school district considers closing 2 schools

Inquirer staff writer Kristen Graham reports: School Reform Commission chair Sandra Dungee Glenn today announced the district will consider closing two public schools. Gillespie Middle School would be closed at the end of this school year, and William Penn High would be closed at the end of the 2009-10 school year, Dungee Glenn said. The district has thousands of empty seats citywide, and the proposed closings come as a response, the chair said. Letters have not yet been sent to affected families. A community meeting will be held at district headquarters on March 11, said Dungee Glenn. Read more breaking news in our From The Source blog.
