PGW worker briefly trapped at excavation site

A Philadelphia Gas Works employee fell into a trench during a site excavation in Brewerytown earlier this afternoon, officials said.

Fire officials said workers were digging in the street near 24th and Poplar Streets when a worker fell into the trench at 2:27 p.m.

The worker, who was briefly trapped, was sent to Hahnemann University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

PGW officials did not immediately return a call for comment.
