SI.com is reporting that Matt Holliday has been acquired by the Oakland A's, ruling him out as an option in left field.
No word yet on the package that was shipped to Colorado, but the A's have several young outfielders, one of whom I assume was involved.
The Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the negotiations, said reliever Huston Street, lefty starter Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez are among the players who had been discussed in recent days. The AP says Holliday will take a physical on Tuesday.
Despite national speculation to the contrary, it isn't a huge surprise that Holliday won't be a Phil.
But at least it is now completely off the table.

and why would colorado pay burrell 13+ instead of holliday for 10.5mill?
efrye, you are playing too many video games trying to figure out deals the phils should make; feliz has ZERO value in an atkins trade as does jaramillo (his ship has long sailed)

Holliday, schmoliday...Get another arm or three.
Yeah i got a little carried away there. Do you think maybe Colorado would be interested in Burrell now?
Make the Atkins offer w/Jaramillo instead of Marson...Feliz may be an upgrade w/the glove but Atkins is no slouch himself plus he is several yrs younger and he is signed for 2 more yrs
Beat me to it Matt, well played.....as many others have said, the Rockies wanted waaaay too much for him. Might be a different story if we came up short again this year, but we won it all, no need to give a lot away for a one year guy....now, if he's on the market next year, and his value has decreased thanks to hitting troubles in Oakland, we'll talk.
He is better than Pat..and can run. Phils shoulda gotten him. Let Pat Go.
and he still hasn't touched home plate.
I hated the idea of renting hoilday for a year..
The only time Wheels should be put in left field is when we want to play the defend against doubles defense or need someone to take a pitch middle-in.
Beane does it again. It's a win-win for him. He's got a piece to trade in-season for more young players or gets a compensation pick when Holiday walks.
Prediction: He will never have another 35 plus homerun season.

whooaaaaa there 93phils. Feliz, Happ, and Marson for a guy who's not really that much of an upgrade over Feliz when you consider Pedro's glove? I'm nautious just thinking about it. We can't just be "throwing in" a guy into deals right now that we may need behind the plate for a couple of years if Ruiz continues to have long bouts of offensive trouble. Besides, if you are going to send him somewhere, do it for an arm or a guy like Holliday, not Atkins.
I actually thought the A's may have been interested in signing Burrell. This may be a blessing in more ways than one.
The Wheels dance? I thought it was like a convulsion.
Atkins played 14 innings in LF in 2004. Could he play LF now? I think Rockies would take Happ and Feliz for him. Throw in that catcher prospect too
This is great news.
Colorodo was crazy in what they were asking.
Now please just sign Burrell to a 2 yr deal.
we can put wheels in left and use scottie palmer as a late inning sub.

RWR is right as rain....Holliday will be exposed in Oakland. He should have made Philly his #1 destination. It will be interesting to see how this deal shakes out. Good news for Burrel, he suddenly has more leverage with Phillies and everyone else. Pick up the phone Ruben and talk with his agent.
Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street, and Greg Smith for Holliday; I think Beane has lost it, no way Holliday signs long term with them
Thank God. Now re-sign Pat.
Brilliant. There goes Holliday's free agent value. A product of Coors Field, going to Oakland, with little or no offensive support, and one of the worst hitter's parks in all of baseball. Watch his power numbers plummet, and his "market value" fall even further, even faster. Stinks to be Matt Holliday today. Although there is a glimmer of hope for the poor guy... it isn't a done deal yet. All the reports currently out there say it is CLOSE to happening... not that it has happened.
Almost definitely for the best - too expensive without enough certainty - but it would have been great to see him knock 'em out & around the bank
Yea, more and more this was starting to look like a bad idea, from what I'm hearing Greg Smith is a big part of the deal but there has to be a couple high level prospects in there too
Thank The Lord.
