The three New Jersey children with Nazi-themed  middle names have been placed in the custody of the state, police said.

Holland Township Police Sgt. John Harris workers from the state Division of Youth and Family Services removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell.

Harris, who as there to keep order on Tuesday, says DYFS did not tell police the reason the children were removed. DYFS spokeswoman Kate Bernyk says the child-welfare agency does not comment on specific cases.

The children and their parents, Heath and Deborah Campbell, received attention last month when a northwestern supermarket bakery refused to put Adolf Hitler Campbell’s name on a birthday cake.

Wonder if the kids would have been removed from their parents if they had chosen the middle name of Stalin. Most probably not in spite of the fact that Uncle Joe killed more people than Hitler ever did. But then Uncle Joe was our bossom buddy during the "Good War".

Did anyone ask the kids if they liked their names? Can whimsical names be banned? Can George Forman give all his sons the same name if he wants too?

The STATE THOUGHT POLICE are at it again. Juveniles accused of a crime NEVER have their names mentioned. Welcome to the Isreali influence in America!

Simple case for Health Services: CHILD ABUSE!!!! There are more kinds of abuse than physical abuse. Emotional and psychological abuse done purposefully to children can have the same effects on the child's well being as physical abuse. The stigma that the two children will suffer from sharing names with a man and a movement that is so painful for SENTIENT people to remember will surely cause them to suffer marginilization and further abuse from their peers and probably the adults whom the encounter. If it is not abuse, it is at least neglect. I.E. NEGLECTING THE WELFARE OF THE CHILD... nuff said

anthonyg Please don't use the phrase "white trash" it is incredibly racist and demeaning. After all, no one says "black trash" or "jew trash" - as it's not acceptable. Back on topic though, what would have happened if the name was Josef Stalin Campbell or Idi Amin Campbell? Probably nothing......

I guess we can't name our kid "Joseph" because somebody will think we named him after Josef Stalin.

That is definitely some form of child abuse. While i'm down with free speech, these parents are not giving their children a chance in life. Worse than the names, the parents are problem indoctrinating their children with hate.

I hate to comment but I have to say that after blaming all things Republican for everything its pretty comical that some are voicing their fear of the new pres being blamed for everything no matter how stupid. Pick a new phrase, it comes with the territory and has since George Washington took office. And on the real topic, it would have been nice if the parents had hadthe guts to change their names instead of banding their kids with their hate

We don't have unlimited "free speach", in as much the courts have ruled that States have vested interests in their citizens. So, given that arguement, the state can intervene on it's behalf if the state believes that "something: isn't right. let be honest, as these kid grow those name are going to be a hinderance rather than help. Regardless of any EEO law, companies will find away around hire people with these names. Imagine getting a call from company "X" selling the news product, and the caller says "Hi, this is Adolf Hitler from "X"...next sound...click

WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FOR WHAT REASON! Sounds like a violation of the Bill of Rights. Though I disagree with the choice of names, the parents are FREE to name their children whatever the like. The government will next be stealing children b/c their parents oppose certain government issues. THIS IS NOW THE FORMER SOVIET UNION!

wake up people, there is another reason besides those names to remove those kids. you can't take away kids just for that. it's because the parents suffer from an incurable condition....chronic douchbaggery.

let's hope that noe of the kids want to marry Abraham Judah Cohen. Poor kids. Is rethinking the idea that parents should be required to pass a "common sense" test before having kids.

Did they find these kids wearing brown uniforms with a red band on the sleeve? Seriously, just wait--these kids are going to be famous one day--they will write a book, appear on the Oprah show, and then move to a ranch in Wyoming. The funny part of this whole story, after ShopRite refused to print the names on their cake, Wal-Mart did agree to do so.

It is not a crime to give your kids stupid and offensive names. Unfortunatley it is also not a crime to teach them to hate. It appears that the parents were not arrested or charged with abuse so if their names are the only reason these children were taken away then its wrong. Freedom of speach and ideas is still a right in this country no matter how offensive. When you can be punished over your thoughts and words then we are no better than a communist or Nazi state. Many of you are going to say that these childrens were being thaught rasism and how to hate and are better off out of that home. I would agree but children in black, hispanic, muslin and christian homes are also being taught some type of prejudice. Are we going to remove them too? Where do we draw the line? Many religions have a belief that theirs is the true religion and those not of the same faith are below them. Do we remove children from Jewish homes becasue they are being taught something the rest of the country does not agree with? I do not agree with the message these parents are giving their children but I have to support their right to do so.

davesju93 - While I'd agree that a person should be able to legally change their name to 'Adolf Hitler' or 'Aryan Nation', I'd imagine that a very strong case could be made that giving that name to a child is abusive (or, at the very least, very bad parenting). (As a side note, I'm not waiting for someone to blame Obama. I'm waiting for the first reference to Camden.)

i love the fact that the nazi parents were so dumb that they misspelled "Himmler" as "Hinler".

jlamb you got it wrong...the blame is always Bush's. Also, what about kids with names that have no meaning at all? Or name like Malcolm X? Do I think its crazy to name a kid after Hitler? You bet. But if that is a reason for the kids being removed from the home, than the state just reacted just like the Nazis the kids are named after.

Boy, Heath and Deborah sound like great parents, don't they? I mean, it's not like they're setting up their kids to be social pariahs the entire rest of their lives or anything. Certainly, these kids will be well-adjusted and will never have to see the inside of a psychiatrist's office. By the way, who puts their kid's middle name on a birthday cake anyway? Answer - nobody. If they just asked for "Happy birthday Adolph", nobody would even know about the kid's ridiculous middle name. But good ole' Heath and Debbie wanted some attention. They got it, and now everyone knows they are morons. Congratulations!

A corollary to my previous statement: I also believe that the children in question should have every legal right to contest their naming in family court if they so choose. Usually, courts adhere to a legal principle of "what's best for the child's interests," so they should grant a child's wish in the matter.

Isn't this a violation of free speech? I'm assuming at this point that the middle names are the sole reason for the children's removal (I could be wrong, parts of the story seem missing). From my understanding, one can use any name as long as it's not intended to be used for confusing or fraudulent purposes. They're not names I would ever consider, but it seems as if the parents have that right. I also believe the store had every right to refuse to decorate a cake with those names.

I blame Obama! (Just kidding) I remember hearing the parents saying that WWII happened so long ago that it shouldn't be a problem. Are these people high? Seriously, it's one thing if you wish to make a statement with yourself, but to stigmatize your kids and turn them into outcasts is deplorable! I hope they do have their names changed...

The kids should have their names changed legally to something normal, and their so-called parents should be sterilized. Then change their first names to Sholom and Nechama. And I don't blame ShopRite for refusing to put that pig's name on the birthday cake.
