Last year, Charlie Manuel dodged questions about his Opening Day starter throughout the early stages of spring training, ultimately surprising everyone by giving Brett Myers the offer. This time around, he ended any suspense early.
As you might have expected, Cole Hamels will start Opening Day, the first time he has done so in his career.
"You might as well go ahead and pencil him in," Manuel said. "There's no sense in me bull(bleeping) you."
^
Today was the first official workout for pitchers and catchers. Most noticable has been the number of players who have dropped signifant amounts of weight. Brett Myers is down 30 pounds and looks like a completely different person. Ryan Howard has dropped about 20. Scott Eyre has dropped about 10. It's like the Phillies clubhouse participated in a Biggest Loser challenge or something.

Dang, I was betting on Eaton
Dang, I was betting on getting bullbleeped.
I'm 62 and in a time warp, I thought Robin Roberts would start.
i like the commitment the players are showing...in shape for the long haul and another run
I want Chan Ho Park.
Glad Myers lost weight. I just hope the svelte figure won't hurt his hitting.
Chan Ho Park thinks he's a shoe in for the 5th starter. I feel bad for that guy. That's where the real story is.
He deserves it.
I was thinking maybe Bob Walk. Didn't he start Game 1 of the 1980 World Series?
The media--go figure. Who the h-ll else would he start on opening day? This is a story? Please David, get away from your desk and get a real story. And, by the way, is there a sports editor at your paper or are you the guy? Geeeesh.....
i guess David West will start game 2. thanks murph. thank god you arent covering wire tapping or guantanamo.
Konstanty comes out of pen to open season.
how about Don Carman?
Porfirio Altamirano?
In another development, the Phils announced Ryan Howard will be the opening day 1st baseman and Jimmy Rollins the opening day shortstop...
