A sanitation truck got stuck in a giant pothole - or sinkhole - in southwest Center City today, forcing authorities to restrict lanes on Broad Street and causing a local traffic backup.

The truck got stuck on the 1300 block of Kater Street around noon with reports of a possible water main break beneath the street.

Police, fire and utility crews responded and began trying free the truck. The crews called in a tow truck.

That portion of Kater, along with parts of South and Bainbridge streets were closed as the crews worked. Northbound traffic on Broad Street was restricted to one lane near the scene.

The driver appeared to be uninjured.
