Commuter alert: N.E. Extension jam

An accident this morning forced emergency crews to close lanes of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between Quakertown and the Mid-County toll plaza.

Police, fire and ambulance crews all responded, and a tow truck was dispatched to help remove the vehicles involved.

The crash occurred southbound at milepost 24.8, between south exit 44 (Pa 663) in Milford, and south exit 20 (at I-276). Officials warn that motorists should seek alternative routes or expect major delays, especially around Lansdale.  Only one lane was getting by northbound near the crash site.

A notice on the Pennsylvania Turnpike website was informing commuters to exit at Lansdale, and take State Route 63 East to US Route 309 South.  This would bring them to the Ft. Washington Interchange.
