Blown transformer displaces 100 in West Philly

A blown transformer caused a fire at high-rise apartment building in West Philadelphia and left about 100 residents without power.

The incident happened at a Philadelphia Housing Authority building on the 4400 block of Holden Street at about 11 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was put under control quickly, but the blaze knocked out power to the building.

The Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania set up a shelter for displaced residents at West Philadelphia High School. The Red Cross said it would provide blankets, food and drinks to residents until power is restored.

No injuries were reported.
