Armed bandits rob Montco pub

Two armed bandits entered a tavern on Dekalb Pike in Whitpain Township, Montgomery County, early this morning and robbed those inside, including patrons, at gunpoint, according to police.

Separately, police were dispatched to a family-style restaurant in Hilltown, Bucks County - about 14 miles away - for a report that tavern had been burglarized after closing. A safe was found outside.

It was not known if there was any connection between the two robberies.

In the first incident, police were called about 1:30 a.m. to the Whitpain Tavern on the 1500 block of Dekalb Pike, according to township police.

NBC10 reported that police spotted the stolen, red Ford Mustang and chased it into the parking lot of  Montgomery County Community College's Blue Bell campus, which is less than two miles from the bar.  The men fled into the woods.

Police were still searching for suspects as of early this morning and offered no firm descriptions.

The college's campus will remain closed until noon today because of the police activity, school officials said in a message sent on the website and Twitter account.

In the second incident, Bucks County dispatch said police were sent about 4:30 a.m. to O'Grady's Restaurant in Hilltown for a report it had been burglarized overnight.
