Man arrested after explosives threat on Roosevelt Blvd.

After an hours-long standoff that snarled rush-hour traffic at Roosevelt Boulevard this afternoon, a man who told police he had explosives in his stopped SUV was arrested without incident.

Traffic was detoured off Roosevelt between Seventh Street and the Schuylkill Expressway after the driver told police at 2:30 p.m. he had explosives in his stopped vehicle at Ninth Street and the boulevard, police said.

After a standoff, the man walked away from his SUV shortly after 5 p.m., and he was surrounded by police and arrested. The road was reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Police have not disclosed the identity of the arrested man.    - Derrick Nunnally
