I-76 road rage victim critical, shot in head

A 41-year-old South Jersey man driving with his 8-year-old daughter remains in critical condition today after being shot in the head during a road rage incident on the Schuylkill Expressway last night, authorities said.

Thomas Timko, who works as a forklift operator for a Malvern company, was taking his daughter from his home in Glendora, Camden County, to her mother's home in Norristown, police said.

Driving his girlfriend's 2001 gold Toyota Highlander, Timko crossed the Walt Whitman Bridge, paid the toll, and shortly thereafter had some reason to pull over, police said.

Around 8:45 p.m., his Toyota re-entered traffic and apparently cut off another vehicle.

The daughter told police she heard two bullets hit one of the passenger-side windows and saw her father slump forward, police said.

Timko managed to pull off the road and a motorist stopped later to offer assistance, said the victim's girlfriend, who lives with him in Glendora.

The car was found on the side of the westbound expressway near the Passyunk Avenue exit at about 9:40 p.m., police said.

At least four shots were fired, based on shell casings found at the scene.

Timko was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and was listed in critical condition. His daughter was not injured. He was breathing on his own, his girlfriend said this afternoon.

The shooter has not been arrested.

The expressway was shut down for several hours last night while police investigated the shooting.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Philadelphia police detectives at 215-686-3013.
