A single-engine plane was forced to make an emergency landing this afternoon on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County, police said.
The aircraft took off about 1:30 from the Allaire Airport in Wall Township when it suddenly lost power. Pilot Joseph A. Rubino, 44, of Hazlet had no choice but to bring the plane down in the roadway's northbound lanes in Tinton Falls, police said.
Drivers may have been startled to see the aircraft touch down in traffic, but no one was injured.
Rubino and co-pilot John H. Hannon, 48, of Long Branch had planned a photo trip to take of aerial pictures of the Red Bank area, police said.
The aircraft was placed on a flatbed truck to be moved off the Parkway before the start of the evening rushhour.
