Four of five women who testified at Longo's preliminary hearing said that Longo, 41, of South Philadelphia, ordered them to perform oral sex on him or raped them. A fifth woman said she escaped from his car after she realized he was not a cop.
The alleged attacks occurred between September 2007 and Jan. 30. The women, who ranged in age from 22 to 27, said that Longo had picked them up in Kensington or South Philadelphia.
Municipal Court Judge Karen Simmons held Longo for trial on charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, attempted murder, kidnapping, impersonating a public servant and weapons offenses.
All the women told similar stories: Each was walking the street, working as a prostitute, when Longo picked each one up in a red car. Inside, he claimed to be a city police officer and flashed a badge or identification card, and in some cases, had blue flashing lights or a handgun.
Four of the women said that they were handcuffed, after which they were raped or forced to perform oral sex. Longo choked some, and threatened to kill some, according to testimony.
One woman, 24, testified that Longo picked her up after midnight Jan. 30, took a knife from her pocketbook and threatened to cut off a trophy - like her nipple.
Speaking softly and nervously rocking from side to side in the witness chair yesterday, the woman testified that after Longo picked her up at Kensington Avenue and Willard Street in his red Pontiac Grand Am, she agreed to give him oral sex for $30.
But then, Longo "told me he was a police officer," pulled out a gun and cuffed her hands behind her back, she said.
He drove on Interstate 95, then exited in South Philly and parked, she said. Over the next four hours in his car, Longo pushed the gun into her mouth, forced an aluminum baseball bat in her mouth and forced her to perform oral sex on him, she said.
He found a knife in her pocketbook, "put it to my neck and ran it across my chest," and threatened to take a "trophy" from her body, she said under questioning by Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Naylor.
He forced her into the back seat and raped her, at times placing a plastic bag over her head, she testified.
At one point, the woman said she tried getting out, but couldn't open the front-passenger door. Later, when he ordered her to sit on his lap, she escaped from the driver's door.
Defense attorney Sam Alboum asked this woman, as he later did the others, if she had gotten into Longo's car voluntarily. She said she had.
When he asked why she didn't resist when Longo allegedly put the bat in her mouth, this woman replied: "How could I resist? I was handcuffed. I was crying."
Another woman, who was jittery and cried on the stand, said that Longo had picked her up last September at 7th and Jackson streets, South Philly. "He asked me if I was working on the street," she said. "I said, 'Yes.' "
After she got in his car, he told her he was a cop and cuffed her hands behind her back, she said.
This woman, then 26, said that Longo drove to FDR Park in South Philly. There, he grabbed her head and forced her to perform oral sex on him about five times, she said. He also pushed her head against the passenger window and choked her for a second or two, she said.
Afterward, as he was driving on Columbus Boulevard, he forced her to give him oral sex again before he let her out near Home Depot, she testified.
In October, the same woman said she got into Longo's car a second time. She believed that he was a police officer and she didn't want to go to jail, she testified.
This time, he brought her to his house on a small street near 3rd and Porter, she said. Police have said Longo lived on Gladstone Street near 3rd. Inside the house, he handcuffed her and gave her heroin, she said. She admitted she was a heroin addict.
In the living room, Longo pushed her down on a couch, and raped her, she said.
"Did you consent?" Naylor asked.
"No, not at all," the woman said. *
