$25,000 reward offered in armored car robbery

A $25,000 reward was offered today for information leading to the arrest of a bandit who held up an armored car this morning in the city’s Olney section.

A Garda armored car courier was making a delivery to the PNC Bank branch at 4th and Tabor Streets shortly after 11 a.m. when a man armed with an assault rifle approached him, said J.J. Klaver, an FBI spokesman.

The gunman grabbed at least one bagful of cash and fled in waiting car with a getaway driver. The car, a brown or bronze sedan with a square back, was last seen headed south on 5th Street.

The gunman was described as a thin black male with a light complexion, in his mid-20s to early-30s, and about 5-foot-9. He had a long beard and wore a hat and a brown leather jacket with a sheepskin lining.

Garda has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robber and his accomplice.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 215-418-4000.
