N.J. officials: Pair gambled at Borgata with stolen money

A New York couple has pleaded guilty to gambling at the Borgata with $500,000 in stolen money that authorities said the pair had attempted to launder at the casino's slot machines.

Jamine Alabre, 28, of Westbury, N.Y., and her boyfriend, Mathurin Ambroise, 34, of St. Albans, N.Y., pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court in Atlantic County to receiving stolen property.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Alabre faces a six-year prison term and Ambroise faces three years in prison. Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 24.

The couple was indicted in January 2007 and arrested in Nassau County, N.Y.

Alabre was accused of stealing $1 million from her former employer, IPSOS, an international marketing firm on Long Island.

Between January and October 2005, the couple laundered more than $500,000 at the slot machines, particularly at the Borgata, where they were observed putting large amounts into the high-limit slots, the state Attorney General's office said today.
