A Drexel University police officer shot a man allegedly carrying a gun on 32d Street near Arch Street in the Powelton section of West Philadelphia Friday, police said.

Shots were fired at about 6 p.m. and the man was wounded in an arm and a leg. He was in stable condition and was being taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police said.

The officer who was involved in the shooting is also said to have sustained injuries to the face and was to be treated at the same hospital, police said.
