Girl, 3, drowns at Delco swim club

Emergency responders arrived at St. Albans Swim and Tennis Club, near the intersection of West Chester Pike and Bryn Mawr Avenue, just before 5 p.m. to find lifeguards performing CPR on the toddler.

She later died at Bryn Mawr Hospital, said Chief Dennis Anderson of the Newtown Township, Delaware County, Police Department.

Club management shut down the pool area while officers combed the scene, trying to determine what happened.

Investigators will not release the girl's name until Monday, pending notification of family, Anderson said. It was unclear who the child was with at the time she drowned.

Employees of St. Albans, a private members-only club, said the organization would have no comment on the incident.

Four other people have died in swimming-related inincidents during the last week, the run-up to the traditional start of the summer holiday season.

On Wednesday, three teenagerss drowned in separate incidents in area waterways - Olympia Lakes in Burlington County, the Delaware River near Pennypack Park, and a creek in Gloucester County.

A 23-year-old Kensington woman drowned May 21 while swimming in Neshaminy Creek.
