The Eagles are talking to longtime Tennessee Titans assistant Jim Washburn about their defensive-line coaching vacancy, league sources confirmed.

The story was first reported by the Tennessean after an interview with Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher.

A deal appears imminent, one source told The Inquirer. Titans coaches work under one-year contracts, and with Fisher on shaky ground after another losing season, Washburn may be looking for more stability - and perhaps a bigger paycheck.

The 61-year-old Washburn has been with the Titans for the last 12 seasons. During his tenure, he helped mold a number of linemen into Pro Bowlers, including defensive ends Kyle Vanden Bosch and Jevon Kearse, and defensive tackles Kevin Carter and Albert Haynesworth.

Titans defensive end Jason Babin, released by the Eagles last year after one season of part-time duty, earned a spot in the Pro Bowl this season after he recorded 121/2 sacks.

The Eagles fired Rory Segrest last week after two seasons as their defensive line coach. After opening the season with 24 sacks in the first eight games, the Eagles' pass rushers generated only 15 in the last nine.
