State Sen. Michael Stack is holding a Senate Transportation Committee hearing next Thursday on a bill he sponsored that would increase from one to five years in prison the mandatory-minimum sentence for someone fleeing the scene of a deadly accident.

The public hearing will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Nazareth Hospital, 2601 Holme Ave. in Northeast Philadelphia, in the Marian Hall Conference Center.

Testifying will be Dolores Roberto, whose son Peter Roberto Jr., 12, was killed by William Halloran on Thanksgiving 2004, and Theresa Sautter, whose daughter Marylee Otto, was killed in March 2008 by hit-and-run driver Michelle John-son.

Stack, who represents parts of Northeast Philadelphia, is also trying to drum up support for another bill he sponsored (SB 523) that would set up a "Peter Roberto Alert System." Similar to the Amber Alert system, it would put out public alerts in cases when a driver flees the scene of an accident.
