Two teens were shot by the same bullet in Upper Darby this weekend; and, in a separate incident, a man shot in the leg found the strength to run away from the thieves trying to rob him, police said.

The teens, ages 16 and 18, were approached by three men, including brothers Rashad and Aaron Malik Harris, who accused them of "disrespect" because they looked at them the wrong way, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Rashad Harris, 22, allegedly told his brother Aaron, 18, to "air them out." Aaron Harris then pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and cocked it before warning the victims that they'd be back, police said.

Shortly thereafter, about 8 p.m., the Harris brothers and a third, unidentified, man went to one of the teens' homes on Aberdeen Road near Guilford - less than a block away from their own home - and opened fire, Chitwood said.

The 18-year-old was hit in his left side. That bullet exited his body and entered the back of the 16-year-old's body before exiting out his stomach, according to Chitwood.

"They fired three shots but it only took one to hit two," he said.

The teens were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The 18-year-old was treated and released. The 16-year-old remains in guarded condition, police said.

Warrants have been issued for the Harris brothers on attempted murder and related charges. They are believed to be in the North Philadelphia area.

Upon a search of their home, police recovered two weapons, a .38 caliber revolver reported to be have been stolen in Philadelphia and a .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol, Chitwood said.

Aaron Malik Harris was arrested in Philadelphia in April on weapons violations, Chitwood said. His preliminary hearing in the case is set for tomorrow.

In a separate incident, about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, a 44-year-old man was walking home from his job at a 7-Eleven when he was jumped by two men and hit in the head with a gun butt in an attempted robbery at Church Lane and Greenwood Avenue, police said.

The victim struggled with his attackers and was shot in the right thigh, Chitwood said.

Instead of complying with their further demands, the victim ran for two blocks screaming for help. The robbers ran in the other direction, without getting anything from the man.

"Fear can be a great motivator," Chitwood said.

The victim is listed in stable condition at HUP.
