Burglar-in-the-buff gives up

The cheeky burglar who broke into two residences in Abington on Friday and fled naked turned himself in yesterday - clothed - township police said.

Michael Victor, 52, of Chester Avenue, Abington, surrendered at the Abington police station at 4 p.m. with his lawyer, police said.

Victor works as a building engineer for a Philadelphia elementary school, district spokesman Fernando Gallard said, declining to elaborate.

Police had been searching for the disrobed desperado after surveillance cameras caught him sneaking into an apartment complex on Old York Road near Hamilton Avenue on Friday dressed in shorts and a tank top but fleeing in the buff.

Police said that Victor sneaked into one apartment and stripped down, rifled through a woman's clothes, broke several pieces of furniture and fled with the woman's laptop and his clothes.

A resident of the complex called police, Abington detective Phil Geliebter said. Shortly after, Victor allegedly broke into a nearby home, and again rifled through the female residents' clothing and broke furniture. He scrawled obscenities on mirrors in two bedrooms, Geliebter said.

Victor is also suspected of indecently exposing himself to a woman before the first break-in, he said.

"He obviously has some problems, some issues that he needs to deal with," said Victor's attorney, Michael F. Dunn.

"He already started working on those issues before he turned himself in, and he has an appointment scheduled with a specialist to help him straighten those things out as soon as he gets out of jail," he said.

Victor was expected to face charges of criminal mischief, indecent exposure and burglary, police said.
