6 dead, 3 wounded in post-holiday violence

Six people are dead and three are injured - including an 18-year-old man who police say may be paralyzed - after a bloody post-Christmas weekend throughout the city.

_ 4:08 p.m. Two men were rushed to Temple University Hospital after a shooting inside a residence at 26th and Oakdale streets, in Tioga, police said.

Police said that the men, both in their mid-30s, were inside the residence when one of the men allegedly fired at the other man, striking him at least once in the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m.

The alleged gunman was struck in the shoulder, although authorities did not specify how that wound was inflicted.

He was being held as a suspect, said police.

_ 7:30 p.m. Police are investigating a stabbing inside a residence on Mifflin and Hemberger streets, South Philadelphia, that left an unidentified victim hospitalized. Police reported no immediate arrests.

5:35p.m.

Police responded to a report of gunshots on Harmony Street near Wharton, in Southwest Philadelphia, and found two men unconscious and bleeding from gunshot wounds.

Police said Charles West, 61, was shot in the torso, while his friend, Ronald Simmons, 56, was shot in the head. Both men live in the neighborhood.

They were rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where Simmons was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m. West was pronounced dead eight minutes later.

Police say the longtime friends were not the intended targets.

"They were standing out there, drinking some beers when at least nine gunshots were fired," said Homicide Lt. Philip Riehl.

"It looks like they were at the wrong place at the wrong time."

No suspects have been named in the shooting, he said.

_ 8:40 p.m. Terrell Holliday, 19, was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. at Albert Einstein Medical Center after being shot in the head in West Oak Lane, police said. Two other men also were shot. An 18-year-old who was shot in the chest might be paralyzed, police said, and a 19-year-old was shot in the back. Both were listed in critical condition, police said.

The three men were gunned down at the intersection of Ogontz Avenue near Walnut Lane. Police reported no suspects or motive.

7:20 p.m.

When police arrived at the West Kensington home of Carl Papendick, 37, an online computer salesman, they found him face down at his desk, shot execution-style.

Police believe that he was the victim of an apparent robbery at his home on Howard Street near Columbia Avenue, said Riehl.

A safe inside the residence was found open, although police did not disclose what was stolen.

They also reported no suspects or motive. *
