. . . I loved it: 'She looked stunning, modern ...'
All hail Michelle Obama, the new first lady of fashion. I loved the red-and-black sheath dress that the future first spouse rocked on election night. No pastel skirt suit for this hot mom. The bold colors and clean sharp lines perfectly accented Obama's tall elegant frame. She looked stunning, modern and fresh.

And of course, her two daughters were the perfect fashion accessories, Maliya in a red dress and Sasha in black frock with a bow. Not to mention her husband's clean-cut suit and red tie.
Sure, I know people are already bashing on her pick. But to that I say: Aren't we ready for change in the White House? Don't we want a first lady who's a trendsetter again? And to be a style icon, you have to take risks.
Obama didn't play it safe on Tuesday with a staid old-guard design. She opted for the hip American designer Narciso Rodriguez, who has dressed Claire Danes, Selma Hayek and Sarah Jessica-Parker - and who designed the stunningly simple wedding dress worn by the late Caroline Bessette-Kennedy. Obama's dress was based on a look from his spring 2009 line.
The fitted dress, which Obama paired with a cardigan and black heels, was a welcome departure from the matronly suits typically worn by political wives (ahem, Jill Biden). Throughout the campaign, Obama has favored dresses, and has mixed high-end designer pieces with clothes from stores like J. Crew. She likes color, bold accessories and isn't afraid to wear high heels.
Don't ever change, Michelle. We can't wait to see your inauguration wardrobe. *
