Olga’s Diner shut again after failing to pay gas bill

Trouble is brewing again for Olga's Diner, the landmark South Jersey diner on the Marlton Circle.

Trouble is brewing again for Olga's Diner, the landmark South Jersey diner on the Marlton Circle.

Gas and electricity was shut off Friday at the once-popular eatery for "continuing billing problems," according to a PSE&G spokeswoman this morning.

It remained dark and shuttered through the weekend.

The Fodero-built diner has been forced to close at least three times during the last year. State officials seized it in July for $37,000 in back taxes. Earlier that month, PSE&G turned off the restaurant's utilities twice for non-payment.

Owner John Stavros could not be reached for comment this morning.

The restaurant has been at the Marlton Circle since 1960, when the Stavros family - led by matriarch Olga - expanded from its original location in Camden.

The current owner, her son John, spent most of his life working at the Camden or Marlton Olga's, but in a 2005 interview with The Inquirer said that he wanted to retire and that his children were not able to take over the business.
