3 Northampton students are treated for MRSA

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - An eastern Pennsylvania high school is dealing with an outbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.

Three students at Northampton Area High School have the skin infection, which can be fatal if not treated. They are getting medical care, said Superintendent Linda Firestone, who sent a letter to parents Wednesday urging good hygiene practices to prevent spreading the infection.

Last month in Philadelphia, Saalen Jones, 17, a Martin Luther King High School football player, died of MRSA. - AP
