Man dies leaping from Betsy Ross Bridge

A man who had been fleeing from police yesterday morning died after jumping off the Betsy Ross Bridge, said Lt. Frank Vanore of the Public Affairs Unit.

Vanore said police responded to Griscom Street about 4 a.m., when they found a 41-year-old man involved in a domestic dispute.

The man fled in a Lincoln Town Car and was throwing things from the car as police followed. When he got to the Betsy Ross Bridge, Vanore said, the driver abandoned his car and jumped, falling about 200 feet to the ground.

Vanore said the man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Why is there a need for a comment board on this mundane and unneccesary *police news blotter* story?

Maybe he should have had those springy shoes like Wile E. Coyote.

Did he get the EZ Pass discount or will DRPA go after his estate? Got to pay the rent a cops who patrol the dangerous spans and then make a donation to the new Ed Rendell Museum of Culinary Excess and Hair Loss.

At least he saved us the trouble of draging the river for his body.

Thus ends another wasted life... When are we going to learn that life is not ours to waste?

The"about 200 feet to the ground" is wrong, unless the man climbed the superstructure of the bridge before jumping and fell all the way to the water. Navagation clearance at mean water is 135 feet, top of the bridge is about 210 feet from the water. My condolances to the family.

LOL.. FlyerNut. the guy did not die from the leap it was the sudden stop when he hit the ground. He was upset that he lost his partner who broke his neck and died trying to break into the Delco business last weekend. Another candidate for "The world's dumbest criminals."

13 lawyers have lined up to take this case and want to sue Betsy Ross. Who is she, what did she know, and where the hell is she?

Barring some unforeseen change in coaching philosophy, Donovan McNabb and the rest of the Eagles' projected starters will play in their final preseason game on Friday. Here's one look at what the full roster could be when the regular season arrives.
OBITUARIES
Right up to the time he closed his store near the Italian Market in 2002, Anthony P. Giunta Jr. was still ringing up sales on a 107-year-old hand-cranked brass cash register.
